KNITTING 101: Beginning Knitting


2 Saturdays; Jan. 14 & 21, 10:30AM—12:30 PM OR 2 Mondays; Jan. 23 & 30, 5:45 —7:45 PM

Class Fee $48

This class is for the Ultimate Beginner or the I-Haven't-Knit-In-Years knitter. All you need is a pair of scissors and your positive attitudes but chocolate to share never hurts! You will learn to "speak" knitting lingo as the techniques transform into a functional washcloth — a project you will complete. Be prepared to want to knit more because they make great gifts. Class fee includes 2 sessions, one of our favorite How -To-Knit books, yarn and needles. Instructor: Kathy Shewmaker



KNITTING 202 : Intermediate Knitting


2 Wednesdays; Feb. 15 & 22, 6-8 PM

Class Fee $30

      You know how to do the basics —- maybe —- with a little help from the Internet or books. If you need to polish your techniques and learn some new ones, this is the class for you! Kathy will cover everything from how to fix mistakes to reading a pattern. Bring worsted weight yarn, your needles, do-dads and questions. Instructor: Kathy Shewmaker



CROCHET

     Even if you are a dyed in the wool knitter (couldn’t resist that pun!) , knowing crochet is a must. Crochet edgings and finishes are on many knitting patterns and add to the beauty of the" "garment. Plus, crochet is fast! Give it a whirl, we don’t think you will be sorry.

 

CROCHET 101

2 Fridays; Jan. 13 & 20, 5:30-7:30 PM OR 2 Saturdays; Jan. 21 &28, 10:30 AM-12:30

Class Fee: $48

      Crochet is fun, quick to learn and gaining popularity and “It’s about darn time!” Learn a new skill or brush up on rusty ones. Maddie or Julie will individualize these two crochet sessions to fit your level and help you with whatever project you want to do — scarf, washcloth or baby blanket. Class fee includes yarn, crochet hook and an instructional handout. Instructor: Maddie Gashi or Julie Koeppen

 

CROCHET II: Beyond the Basic

"2 Saturdays; Feb. 11 & 18, 11 AM-12:30PM"

Class Fee: $30

      In this intermediate crochet class, you will learn to read and follow a pattern , change colors and explore the versatility of crochet stitches. Then using a combination of singles, doubles, chaining and slip stitch, you will learn to construct the beautiful and versatile granny square. If there is a specific pattern or technique you are interested in, bring it, and the lovely and talented Ms. Gashi will show you the way. Instructor: Maddie Gashi

SOCKS: Top Down Your Way


3 Wednesdays; Jan. 11, 18 & 25 5:45-7:45 PM


Class Fee: $52


     In a Yarn Basket’s guru will teach you Sock Anatomy, knitting in the round, knitting a heel flap, turning the heel, working a gusset and decreasing for the toe. You choose how you want to knit your socks; double pointed needles or two circular needles. The only prerequisites are you must know how to cast on and knit. This is a worsted weight sock knit on US#4 which makes the project easier to see and faster to knit. Nothin’ scary about size 4 needles! We have lots of appropriate yarn so come in early to make your selection (it might be a difficult decision!) Remember, all purchases for class materials get a discount of 10%. Pattern provided. TOE-UP SOCKS ON TWO CIRCULARS

3 Saturdays: Jan 14, 1-3 PM: Jan 21, 1-4 PM, & Jan 28, 1-2 PM OR
3 Mondays: Feb 6, 5:30-7:30; Feb. 13, 5:30-8:30, & Feb. 20, 5:30-6:30

Yes, each class session is a different length of time, please make a note of it.

     One of our most popular classes, the Toe-Up sock technique is for beginner or experienced "sockaholics"! You must know how to cast-on and knit but experience using circular needles is not required. Learn sock construction including the Magic Cast On and short rows for making the heel. Caution: You might really miss doing the Kitchener Stitch! (NOT!). You will need sock yarn, AND two 24" circular in the appropriate size for your yarn. We can help you with this before class so no worries, please. You will have knitting homework between class sessions so plan accordingly. Pattern will be provided. Instructor: Flo Carlisle

SOCKS: Two @ a Time (on one circular needle)!


3 Saturdays; Feb 11, 18 & 25, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM


Class Fee: $52


     The class you’ve been asking for is here! Two socks at once! Your remedy for the dreaded “second sock syndrome.” Both socks are knit at the same time on one long circular needle. When you’re done, you’re done! You’ll need to know how to knit, and some familiarity with knitting in the round is encouraged, but not necessary. The pattern is included and we have all the yarn and needles available for purchase. Kathy will teach students all the necessary techniques, with a bit of homework between classes. After this class you may never go back to those ol’ single sock days! Instructor: Kathy Shewmaker

 

CLASSES FOR TECHNIQUES, SKILL BUILDING AND JUST
PLAIN FUN

Entrelac

Friday; Jan 27, 11:30AM-2:30 PM

Class Fee: $28



      Entrelac is a technique used to create a textured diamond pattern and if you know how to knit and purl you can do it! Instead of working one row of stitches after another, you work one row of blocks after another, all diagonally connected. It is fun and looks a lot more complicated than it is. This class will get you launched and by the time you leave, you will be comfortable with the technique and well into knitting a gorgeous scarf. Our sample is made using 2 balls of Noro Silk Garden and knitting with US # 7 needles. We have many yarns that would be stunning for this project and you just can’t go wrong with Noro! DROP SPINDLE

2 Fridays; Feb 10 & 17 5:30-7 PM


Class Fee: $38

     Using a spindle is a very inexpensive way to learn hand spinning. Take our class and you’ll have mastered the spindle and learned all the steps needed for spinning. In Aimee’s class you will be drafting out fibers, twisting (plying) the fiber into yarn, and winding up (and storing) the spun yarn. We have beautiful, simple drop spindles available to purchase, or bring your own. Roving is included with the class. Remember, we offer a 10% discount on all supplies bought for our classes. Join us for this new venture into another realm of fiber fun! Instructor: Aimee Dewar

 


TUNISIAN MITTENS NEW Class!

2 Mondays; January 23 &30, 11:30 AM-1 PM


Class Fee: $30

      Warning**Fun Ahead !! This crochet technique is easy to master and such fun to do, you’ll be addicted in no time. Our class features two color, in the round crochet using the Tunisian technique. When finished, your mittens will be the envy of every fiber-loving fashionista! You’ll need two colors of sock yarn (50 grams each) and a double-ended size H crochet hook, which we’ll have available with a 10% discount. *Basic knowledge of crochet required, please.* Instructor: Julie Koeppen


FRIENDLY FOREST FOLK (to knit) NEW Class!

2 Thursdays: Jan 12 & 19, 1-2:30 PM

Class Fee: $35

     Who will you meet in this new class? It depends on you; choose a sly fox, a cute, cheeky chipmunk, a scrumptious squirrel, or whichever forest friend interests you. You’ll need worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles (usually a size seven or eight). Our newest instructor, Wendy, will provide you with the pattern and know-how. This class is a good one for new knitters; just knits, purls and some increase/decrease stitches. We’ll have supplies on hand (for 10% off!) or bring your own. Come and have fun knitting a cute critter---we guarantee he won’t bite or shed. Instructor: Wendy Bethel

 




LACE BEGINNINGS

3 Saturdays: March 3, 17 & 24, 1-3PM

Class Fee: $35

     This is a kind and gentle class that will introduce you to the joys of lace knitting. Your project will be the First Frost triangular scarf designed by Chris de Longpre. Knitted with fingering weight yarn and using US# 3 needles isn’t quite as scary as you might think! There will be a week between session 1 and 2 so you have time for homework. FREE CLASSES

Stash Bustin': Log Cabin

Monday; Feb. 6, 1-2:30 PM


Class Fee: FREE

     This workshop is a great way to use up those odd balls (no, not your relatives!) of yarn and learn a great blanket building technique. Let's keep those quilters from hogging all the fun! Turn this classic quilting pattern into a hot knitting trend, gain some breathing room for your stash, and create a cozy cover for yourself or a unique gift. Instructor: Linda Boyle


Moebius Loop Crochet Scarf

Tuesday; Jan. 17, 5:30-7:30 PM OR Friday; Feb. 24, 1-3 PM

Class Fee: Free with purchase of yarn OR $25


     The name says it all! Crochet a mathematical theorem and a cozy neck warmer all at the same time. We can’t guarantee that you’ll get smarter at calculus as you move that hook, but our Kid Seta mohair is a grade A yarn choice for this project and you will learn how to make an exquisite scarf. Bring in your hooks, choose one of our lovely yarns (don’t worry, they’re all on the Dean’s list), and our teacher will get you started. Instructor: Julie Koeppen

 

ORIGAMI FELTED SLIPPERS

Tuesday, Jan. 24, 5:30 - 6:30 PM OR Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1:30 - 2:30 PM

     These are simple — really, would we kid you?! Stop in for your pattern and knit the 2 strips. We will then show you the magical folding (with a wee bit of sewing). Felt ’em and stand by to take orders. These are fast, fun and slippers that everyone will want. You will need 100% wool in 2 different colors and guess what? We have a great selection! Stitch if Forward--A Day On Not a Day Off

Martin Luther King Day

Monday, January 16th 11:30-5:30 PM

     Bloomingtonians Unite! Knit (or crochet) together for charity. We have yarn, needles, hooks, patterns and chairs! If you don’t have a specific organization or cause in mind, we have suggestions: chemo or preemie caps, Warm Up America Afghan Project, Knit One Save One or scarves and hats for the homeless and underprivileged. You are welcome to choose a Free ball of designated yarn for your project. Come join us for the entire day, spend your lunch hour with us, or pop in as your schedule allows. Commemorate a great man’s life with some community spirit!

Thursday Night Knit Nights 6 - 8 PM

Class Fee $5 (refunded with any purchase)

No registration required! Just drop in for fun or if you are having a problem one of our staff will help. This is a great way to meet people in the fiber community, be inspired by what others are doing, get away from the family for few hours and enjoy some uninterrupted knitting/crocheting. Grab a friend, stop in for supper at the Euro and treat yourself to some relaxing you time. We have beverages but snacks to share are always welcome. (Warning: Knit Happens and so does laughter during Knit Nights!)

 

NORWEGIAN SWEATER

Class Fee: 6 Sessions including pattern $75 then Monthly: $10

4th Tuesday of each month

    The first class will consist of meeting to choose your yarn and pattern followed by swatching and probably more swatching — the why, how-to, how big, etc. Next — colors and gauge checks as you begin to cast on. By session 4 you should be knitting along, following the pattern, graphs and steeking. There are 5 different patterns for you to choose from and one will ‘speak’ to you. In fact, you may have trouble narrowing down The One. The yarn you will use is Alpaca with a Twist’s Baby Alpaca — oh so yummy—- and the colors! Yup, another challenge.

Every Tuesday 11:30—1:30

    We have a fun every Tuesday: Lunch Bunch. And if sitting around chatting, knitting/crocheting isn’t enough, there’s more……….. We will be offering Lunch Bunch Savings! Every week the item will change and you won’t know what it is until you get here but whatever we choose will be 15% off. But wait, there’s still more……. Stop in at The Euro Deli, tell them you are coming to Lunch Bunch and you will get 10% off whatever you purchase for your lunch. That is just a win, win, win! No registration required.


MONTHLY SOCK CLUB

First Wednesday of every month 5:30 - 7 PM

Join us for an hour and a half of nothing but socks! Bring sock yarn from your stash to swap, knit or crochet anything sock related (this might be a good time to start that Sock Blanket that we have been drooling over on Ravelry) or try a new design. We will unveil a BRAND NEW SOCK YARN each month and attendees of the M.S.C. will be able to purchase it at 15% off that night.


MONTHLY MYSTERY BLOCK

Third Tuesday of every month 5:30 - 7:00 PM
FEE: $5 per month

    This Knit-A-Long is a fun way to improve your pattern reading and knitting techniques while creating a lovely heirloom. For $5 per month you will receive a pattern, be able to purchase any worsted weight yarn for your block at 10% off and receive as much help as you might need. On the last Tuesday of the month, the current month's block will be revealed and of course yours will look just like ours! There are 12 different block patterns and the next month’s pattern will be available anytime after the third Tuesday of the month. After all 12 blocks have been completed, you will receive the actual book of patterns the name of which we are keeping secret because we know there are those out there who would work ahead or maybe knit March’s block in February. You over-achieving rule breakers know who you are! Join anytime.


PRIVATE INSTRUCTION

    We offer private lessons for beginning knitting and crochet, socks and just about any project or technique you can think of. Sometimes group lessons don’t fit the busy lives of our customers and no one should miss out on the fun. Getting personalized, individual attention means no down time so you will be sailing along very quickly. Fee: $25 first hour for knit or crochet — includes supplies, $22 first hour for any other technique and $15 subsequent hours.
